Preserving the Past,
Securing the Future

Part of our work to fight the extinction crisis is building our Colossal BioVault – the world’s largest biobank aimed at preserving the genetic diversity of our biosphere. Starting with the Colossal 100 we’re taking steps today to fight the alarming rate that Earth’s biodiversity is being extinguished.

The BioVault is our commitment to safeguard the present diversity of life and our promise to secure a resilient future.

The Colossal species
capsule will include:

Cryopreserved DNA, tissues and reproductive cells, known as biobanking

Reference genomes, which are blueprints for an individual’s genetic make-up

At the heart of the Species Capsule lies The Colossal 100, our list of some of the most endangered vertebrate species prioritized for biobanking and reference genome generation. These species will be selected by meeting key criteria and with guidance from conservation partners and respected authorities, including Re:Wild and the IUCN.
