The Colossal Foundation, in partnership with the Vaquita Monitoring Group (a local youth organization) and CONANP, is committed to implementing low-impact technical solutions to help monitor and stabilize the vaquita population. The initial focus of the partnership is on monitoring this critically endangered porpoise, with the aim of enhancing conservation strategies and improving the chances of population recovery.
Monitoring the vaquita population involves using advanced technologies and methods to locate individuals and track their movements within their habitat. This data will provide valuable insights into the vaquita’s ecology and inform more effective conservation strategies. By closely monitoring the remaining vaquitas, the partnership aims to identify and mitigate threats to their survival, such as illegal fishing practices and habitat degradation.
The Colossal Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that the vaquita does not go extinct under our watch. Additional projects supporting the vaquita will be announced at a later date, further demonstrating our commitment to this critically endangered species and the health of the Gulf of California’s marine ecosystems.
